It's hard for me to tell since I'm the one speaking, but I'm positive I sound very American when I try to communicate! Hopefully that is something that will fade a little more over time. Also, the Andalucians (that is the region of Spain where Granada is located) have a distinct accent. They are known to drop parts of words, especially "s" so "gracias" sounds like "gracia." Who knows how much this will affect my Spanish by the time the semester is over!

If you can learn to understand the Andalucian "slang" (or shall I say, the omittance of over half the alphabet) you will be able to understand any dialect from any country, no matter how fast they're speaking. :o) Hahaha... the older folks are the most difficult to understand.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, all Gringos/Yankees/Guiris speak with an accent. It's all in shortening the vowels. We tend to drag them out a bit, whereas the Spanish say them in a more staccato fashion. you'll get the hang of it!
